AISD Goes Back to School with Three Campus Openings
AISD GOES BACK TO SCHOOL WITH THREE CAMPUS OPENINGS
We are excited to announce that three of the 18 schools included in the $1.1 billion, 2017 Austin Independent School District (AISD) Bond Program have achieved substantial completion. Spire’s Gene Glenn led the project management for the recently-completed Bear Creek Elementary and New Blazier Relief schools, Joe Pille served as the Project Manager for Doss Elementary School, and Brett Kerr provides cost management services for these as well as the other 15 schools that comprise the AISD Bond Program. Because of Spire’s efforts, these schools are prepared to open their doors for the education of Austin’s youth according to the city’s ordinances for in-person operation.
Spire delivered the $30.3 million Bear Creek Elementary School, formerly known as New Southwest Elementary School, to the Southwest Austin community. This campus has a stunning view of the Texas hill country and has overcome significant COVID-19-related delays to open in time to administer online learning for the Fall semester. The Principal of Bear Creek Elementary, David Crissey, stated: “This is not just a building – it represents the hopes and dreams for our future and Spire Consulting Group was keenly aware of the importance of this space and what it represents.”
Spire also oversaw the project management of the $37.3 million New Blazier Relief campus, located in Southeast Austin. This school is a new type of construction, creating a framework for a hybrid elementary and middle school campus. The school overcame numerous obstacles to open in time for online instruction this Fall, including delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and will be an invaluable addition to AISD, allowing students of many ages to learn in an optimal environment.
Lastly, Spire also managed the $31 million Doss Elementary School, located in North Austin. This facility consisted of a relocation and expansion project, which Spire managed from pre-construction to completion. Mr. Pille, this school’s Project Manager, was excited to report the school’s substantial completion so that Doss Elementary could begin teaching students virtually with the start of the AISD school year.
Spire and the AISD project management team are excited about these three schools reaching completion and are looking forward to all 18 schools achieving the same goal. Though the school year does not look as expected, AISD is confident in their ability to capably administer online instruction to Austin’s students until it is deemed safe to return to in-person learning.
